2 (of 7): From Coco's Corner south down Hwy 1 to Loreto:

Itinerary Description:

• On day 3 we left Coco's and rode the dirt out to Hwy 1, headed south and stopped for barrel gas at the junction to the road to Bahia de Los Angeles.
• Blasting down Highway 1, we bypassed Guerrero Negro to Vizcaino where we gassed up and ate lunch at (where else) a local street taco stand. I stopped again to top off before we all got gas at Mulege and then made it to Loreto just at dusk.
• I ran across a group of Australians who were on a Baja Bound trip with Baja legend Tim Morton (just back from the Dakar Rally where he wrenched for Neduro from Colorado Springs - the only North American to finish!).
• I did a really cool quick trip up to the old historic mission at San Javier, which was a beautiful new twisty pavement followed by an easy graded dirt road. Nestled in a beautiful valley it was nice, even had a cobblestone main street in front of the mission.
• Colorado State University graduates have set up a local business called LivingRootsBaja.org to help sustain the ranchero culture and have set it up in San Javier.
• We spent 2 nights in Loreto at the Hotel Plaza Loreto near the main historic church area. They let us park our bikes in the open courtyard. Wow we had some great food there.
